No children were hurt during this taping... bAndage babies..
My son has ADHD, and obviously a very short attention span - usually he's lost interest in something before I've even got it out of the packaging. He's definitely more of an action guy, and loves rough play, whacking himself with various instruments, and loves to be active and outdoors. He's also in therapy for sensory integration dysfunction, so I now realize that his little body NEEDS certain activities to feel centered.
He and my daughter over the last week or two have gotten really into stickers - we've got barney stickers, grandma sent them valentine's day stickers, and they enjoy sticking them everywhere. My son though loves sticking the stickers on himself, and wants to be covered in them from head to toe. Over the holidays when I was wrapping gifts a lot, he'd love to take the roll of tape and have me cut it into strips for him to stick all over his body.
Well, I was shipping a gift this week, and needed to use express mail tape. He went ga-ga over it... so I started out giving him little pieces that I'd ripped off and he stuck them on himself. He asked for more, and bigger pieces, so I started giving him long strips. He tried sticking these across his mouth (he has a lot of oral motor issues) and obviously liked the stimulation. Infants and toddlers who come to our house regularly even had us buy a "vibrator" - seriously - for him to use against his mouth and jaw, so I'm sure they'll see absolutely nothing wrong with what happened next....

Now, before you call child protective services ~ For the first time ever, he was engaged & plugged into this activity for well over an hour. That's huge for us. He enjoyed trying to hop with his legs taped, he enjoyed sticking it over his shoes, and pulling it off, he enjoyed feeling the compression against his body, and he's wanted to do this almost every day since.
My daughter also decided that if he was having so much fun, she should get in on the act also. However, she's nowhere near as co-ordinated or resourceful as my son, and definitely doesn't have the gym skills that he does so I didn't allow her to have her legs taped together (that would just be plain dumb, and unsafe):
and I know you might THINK she looks like she has her mouth taped - she really doesn't, and that isn't a look of horror in her eyes either. They actually both had the best afternoon ever, and all with a roll of USPS tape. Who knew? I've been spending tons of money at Michaels & AC Moore, obviously unnecessarily.
So let me reiterate: NO children were hurt during this "taping".
